Lifting weights and breaking the fibres. When your lifting weights you are actually breaking the fibres within the muscle that your are concentrating on. This muscle will then need time usually 24 to 48 hrs before it has completely recovered. This breaking of the fibres allows the muscle to increase in size. It should not be painful, if it is then your weights lifting is probably over doing it. 1. Always warm up before weight lifting
2. Maintain a good form
3. Use small increments to increase weight
4. Whilst weight lifting don't hold your breath, unless the weights are very heavy
5. Vary your weight lifting routine
6. Don't lock your joints or do small jerky repetitions.
7. Stay focused on what your doing and which muscles your working.
