You can over stretch yourself!

You have to be a very special person to be able to stretch to the splits before warming up! 

You should always do a little gentle aerobic exercise before you start stretching and then start by relaxing into a stretch, it should not hurt in any way. 

Hold each stretch for minimum of a count of ten, work on each part of your body and don't forget your neck! If you want to increase your flexibility then consult your recreation/gym assistant and they should be able to provide you with the correct exercises. 

Then you can stretch to the splits!!
